Here are some photos from a portrait session this past fall.  I’ve been meaning to post it for awhile and I’m happy to share them.  I approached this shoot with a lot of different ideas, and it was so much fun to work with such great subjects and see the finished product come together.  The field, the truck, the couple and the weather all lined up perfectly!  These photos really don’t require a whole lot of words as they are quite able to speak for themselves, just see for yourself… what a sweet couple!

One of the perks to being a photographer is that every job is different and you never know where you may end up.  About a year ago we were commissioned to take photos of the Rath Eastlink Community Centre, our new sports and recreational facility here in Truro, Nova Scotia.  The complex includes a home ice rink for our Junior A Truro Bear Cats hockey team, state of the art gym facility, multi pool aquatic centre as well as the tallest indoor climbing rock wall east of Montreal!
The shots of the pool, rink and gym were fairly straight forward but in order to get the ideal shots of the rock wall we needed to enlist some help.  Rock wall supervisor Christine Cutler arranged to have her whole staff available to assist with what ended up being a blast of a shoot!
My assistant Shannon and I had to climb with our gear up the wall in order to get the angles we were looking for, then perch on a make shift chair you see in the photos below.

We had climbers above an below us all morning so we could get the perfect shot.  It was exhilarating to be 46 feet up capturing these men and women defy gravity!

After the butterball turkey and delectable desserts have been consumed a good portion of us turn to our New Years resolution in hopes of fitting into that new little black dress or polka dot bikini.  With this being said, we thought the following photo shoot we did with Lana Taylor would make for an inspirational blog post.
Lana is a mental health professional, a wife and a mom to an eight year old boy.  She has been strength training for over 15 years and has incorporated the gym into her everyday life. “It is something I look forward to each day and get very disappointed if something gets in its way” says Taylor.
In the last 5-6 years Lana had increased the intensity of her work outs and upon approaching her 40th birthday she realized that she was now in better shape than she was in her 20’s!  Feeling that a photoshoot would be an interesting way to record her progress and for motivation as she works towards future goals, Lana contacted us.  “I thought of Johanna immediately because of the quality of her work, her enthusiasm and engaging personality.  I also knew that I would feel comfortable with her in doing this kind of shoot.”
It was impressive to witness what Lana is capable of as a 40 year old woman and we are honoured to have been there to capture her progress.  We can’t wait to see what she is doing at 50!

Engagement photos are such a joy to take.  We encourage our wedding clients to have their engagement photos taken with us so we all can get to know each other and a bit of what to expect on their big day without all the pressure.  Leslie and Brian are no exception.  They live out west but will be getting married here next year and I am honoured to be their photographer.  We squeezed in this lovely engagement session when they were in town last summer and it turned out spectacular!  I am looking forward to what the big day will bring.

It was so much fun to photograph this beautiful couple a few weeks after their wedding this fall.  Planning a post wedding session is a great way to not have to worry about the weather, travel on the big day, and try something a bit different.  Here are some images from our session for you to enjoy.  Thanks so much Eliza and Logan!

Joan Cochrane - Johanna I absolutely love your work. I was blessed to be a part of this photo session. I know Logan and Eliza were so pleased with their photos. Those photos taken with the sky in so many colors was a “moment” for a photographer and the bride and groom!!! You took full advantage of this moment and created “art”.
