The stage was set for a lovely country wedding, and even a hurricane couldn’t get in the way.  Tropical storm Arthur challenged Mike and Erin’s special day with power outages and very strong winds, but to be honest, it really didn’t matter – the day was perfect.  The wedding was held in a lovely tent, and power was provided by a generator.  We found shelter for photos in a sweet barn and a covered bridge (many thanks to the Yuill and McCurdy Families).  Mike and Erin are so obviously a perfect match, and to have a day surrounded by such a great wedding party made the day relaxed and fun.  A special shout out to Jenn for her help second shooting!

Graduation is such an exciting time in a young persons life.  Not only is it a large accomplishment, but it signals the beginning of something new for each individual.  Whether they are graduating from high school, college or university – these fine young people are growing up!  This a milestone in their lives, and we are honoured to be a part of recording their personal achievements! P I N this to pinterestP I N this to pinterestP I N this to pinterestP I N this to pinterest

Special occasions give us an opportunity to get to know our clients in different ways.  First Communion is a big day for young Catholic children and we love being a part of the celebration with them.  These two beautiful young ladies were so special I felt their portrait sessions should be shared.P I N this to pinterestP I N this to pinterestP I N this to pinterestP I N this to pinterestP I N this to pinterestP I N this to pinterest

It seems that the last couple of years has been all about change around here at Portraits by Johanna.  We now have the new studio complete, new packaging, new staff, a new website and blog!  I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you all to who we are, what we are about, as well as show you around our studio.

When our family moved to the new location I had a vision of what I wanted my studio to look and feel like. I have to say now that the finishing touches are complete I feel the studio is a perfect reflection of what we are all about.

For those of you who have been with me for some time I want to take this opportunity to thank you for growing with us here at portraits by Johanna!  For those of you who are new to us I would like to tell you a bit about who we are and what we do here.

My name is Johanna Matthews; I am the owner and primary photographer. I have been married to my husband, Mike for 15 years and we have two children: our daughter Meika (age 10) and our son Mark (age 7). Seeing how quickly our young family is growing makes me realize what a treasure these years are with them.

I have always had a passion for photography. Even as a child, I was often seen with my camera, and started working at Carsand-Mosher Potographic (a photography store started by my grandparents Marianne and Carson Yorke) when I was 12.

I continued on with Carsand-Mosher after graduation and worked for 12 years as a digital artist (gotta love Photoshop!). I received various awards for photo retouching, photo restoration and image enhancement, including the Professional Photographers of Canada’s top award for photo editing (Specialist of the Year 2001, 2006, 2007).

In 2007, I decided to go solo as a photographer, and formed Portraits by Johanna. I soon realized that I needed help and hired my organized Administrator: Kenley. Expect to hear her cheerful voice when you call our studio. She is a woman of many talents and is a major asset in the presentation of our finished product.

In 2012 Shannon joined our team as the imaginative Production Assistant and second shooter. Together we work diligently to serve the needs of our clients. The enable me to do what I do best: produce and deliver beautiful quality images.

Most recently, we are really excited to welcome Mary to our team as part of our Photoshop retouching team.  Her artistic skill is an asset that makes her a perfect fit!

I truly love what I do and I feel very lucky to be able to enjoy my work so much. I enjoy people, the connection we make with each other, and feel honoured to capture special moments for my clients.

I invite you to visit our photo galleries.  I have chosen a selection of images which best reflect my style, versatility and skill. I trust that they will spark your imagination and bring a smile to your face!

It is my experience that a beautiful portrait is more than an investment of finance; it is an investment of thought, feelings and time. Our images are always a result of collaboration of trust with our clients. Our goal is to meet and exceed your expectations.

I truly hope that after you have spent time visiting our site, you will choose us to create images for your family that suit your taste, your home and your budget. Thanks for your time in considering us, please don’t hesitate to call (or email) for more information.

Here are some photos from a portrait session this past fall.  I’ve been meaning to post it for awhile and I’m happy to share them.  I approached this shoot with a lot of different ideas, and it was so much fun to work with such great subjects and see the finished product come together.  The field, the truck, the couple and the weather all lined up perfectly!  These photos really don’t require a whole lot of words as they are quite able to speak for themselves, just see for yourself… what a sweet couple!
